My name is Gajani Vetharaniyaseyon and I’m currently pursuing a Honours Life science degree at McMaster University. I chose the Life Sciences program because it provides me with the flexibility to explore many fields of science and health that range from the molecular components within our body to becoming knowledgeable of the healthcare industry itself. From this I have been learning to become extremely passionate in various aspects of how the world is connected through human health and have been working towards being a part of that change.

  During my time at the office I had been exposed to several ways the non-profit has been effectively seeking out ways to help those affected with dementia and their families. One of my roles was to effectively create a template focusing on how nutrition can benefit slowing down the cognitive decline of dementia. I had the leadership opportunity to interact with seniors in neighbouring communities to speak about the society's aim in raising awareness of the disease. Moreover, using Google “My Maps” I helped initiate the process of understanding which areas in Halton the organization is and is not communicated with, particularly focusing on lower socioeconomic areas.
