Dr. Wang is a world leading expert in conductor motion control. He has 30 years of experience in engineering, R&D, consulting, and manufacturing in conductor motion control industry. Dr. Wang’s areas of expertise include Aeolian vibration, galloping, sub-span oscillations, conductor pre-mature aging mitigation, HTLS conductors, and overhead line life extension through conductor motion management. He invented a new technology which is the most cost-effective solutions for conductor motion mitigation at the line design stages. Since the 1990's, his motion control technologies have been successfully applied to the U.S. utilities to mitigate conductor motion and improve the grid's reliability and resiliency. The largest new transmission line project in Midwest U.S. (CapX2020) has utilized Dr. Wang's new technology to mitigate conductor galloping at the design and pre-construction stages.Dr. Wang is a lead author of two well-known EPRI Transmission Line Books: Wind-Induced Conductor Motion (“Orange Book”), and Compact Line Design (“Blue Book”). He has consulted extensively for utilities, engineering firms, EPC contractors and conductor and fitting manufacturers. Dr. Wang has provided innovative, reliable and cost-effective solutions to numerous high-profile projects in utility industry worldwide. Proudly, he is the motion control consultant and solution provider for the world's highest operating voltage lines (the 1,000 kV SGCC lines), America's longest river-crossing span (the 6,240 ft Tacoma Narrows Crossing span), and the Midwest's largest new transmission line project (the $2 billion CapX2020 project). He also served as consultant in galloping control standards development for utilities in the US.Dr. Wang is the Chair of the 2016 IEEE T&D Conf & Expo Panel - Transmission Line Asset Management through Conductor Motion Management. He is the Vice Chair of the IEEE Overhead Conductors & Accessories Working Group. He holds a U.S. patent in conductor galloping control.
