In February 2010, I joined the Enterprise Architecture team as an Application Architect. An architect position at First Advantage entails a number of responsibilities:• Providing technical direction to the different IT teams throughout the organization.• Designing and prototyping enterprise solutions with a focus quality, scalability and reuse.• Acting as “last level” technical support for all production environments within the organization• Assisting in project management of IT projects as needed. The screening application that I worked on is made of up several enterprise applications that interact with each other and 3rd party systems. The main component is a J2EE application containing 3 front end web UI applications; one Swing front end application and a suite of back end EJB based services. The system utilizes XML and JMS (via Message Driven Beans) for inter-service communication. User presentation is done using the Struts web framework and XSL transformations. The system also heavily interacts with the AquaLogic Service Bus which provides a platform for deploying enterprise wide services for facilitating interaction with other systems.During this time period, I was the senior technical lead for the background screening groups Java team. This was a distributed team of leads and developers located in Florida, California and India. Approximately half of our 15-20 person team was located offshore in our Bangalore, India office.I was responsible for any aspect of system programming, application design, interaction with customers to determine business needs, mentoring developers and other leads and assisting with project management.

Sinusoidal Motion was a consulting services company that I formed to provide outsourced development to local companies. Our focus was on small and medium sized businesses that needed a team to handle all development activities. This included business analysis, requirements gathering, software architecture, implementation, testing, and production delivery.

GoSolutions is a provider of unified communications services. My responsibilities here included architecting and implementing core system functionality, designing, implementing and maintaining the companies billing system, overseeing development of an internal administrative system, mentoring junior developers and taking a lead role in instituting modern development practices in the company (this including migrating the company to using the Scrum agile process). I was one of two lead developers architecting the “next generation” system. This system was a service oriented architecture running on distributed Jboss servers (and would span at a minimum 2 data centers). In addition to a web based interface, a VOIP telephony solution was being implemented. The platform was designed to support an active user base of 150,000 to 200,000 users.Beyond my development responsibilities, I took part in several database upgrades (Oracle 8 to 9 and 9 to 10) as well as several application server upgrades and migrations (Weblogic 6 to 7 and Weblogic 7 to Jboss 4).

abeama’s main business was to create a wireless content delivery system with a focus on advertising uses. The system was designed using J2EE and made heavy use of EJBs and servlets. The interfaces to the system were designed using HTML, WML and HDML with an emphasis on the ability to add future client types. Development was done against the Sun J2EE reference implementation and testing was done using Weblogic. I was a part of a small team of developers responsible for designing and implementing the system.In February of 2001 I was promoted to Director of Engineering. In addition to my development responsibilities, I was responsible for managing the team’s development cycle. This included overseeing the architectural design of the system, scheduling and delegating tasks to the team members, and assisting the Chief Technical Officer in any specific customer needs.

Primary responsibilities included development using the Lotus Notes/Domino system. Applications developed were mainly web-based applications dealing with document management using Domino.Doc. Most work covered all aspects of the project including customer consulting (gathering specifications), development, testing and deployment. Some projects required additional technologies such as exporting to various data formats (XML, HTML, other databases) and developing server add-in tasks using C/C++ APIs.
