I am responsible for all daily arts coverage in print, desktop, mobile, video and social, managing a team of about 10 staff. I use the Fairfax content management system to produce high-quality content, all optimised for maximum search engine visibility. I undertake strategic planning for our arts coverage, ensuring all major events receive appropriate attention and that we provide a good mix of content for readers. I manage the department’s budget and maintain a network of contacts among major arts influencers in the city and beyond. I identify legal issues and take legal advice where necessary. I also write on the arts and represent my employer at a broad range of events. There is a small selection of my written work below.

As a senior arts writer, I interviewed many leading figures and wrote stories to strict deadlines for print and online. I was responsible for producing my copy for desktop and mobile and marketing it through social media channels. I also took on regular shifts as digital entertainment editor in this period.

As a self-directed general features writer I generated my own ideas, writing material on a broad range of topics to strict deadlines for both print and online.

I launched and edited the Herald’s pioneering environment section, Eco, which became a success both commercially and with our readers.

I was responsible for the daily production of all the Herald’s daily tabloid sections, overseeing the work of about 35 writers and editors.

This involved management, sub-editing and production duties for a quality 20-page weekly section. I wrote a popular technology column for the section.

I set up and managed the bank’s internal newspaper, managed its video production and internal communications team. I was instrumental in establishing Westpac’s intranet and also worked on major external communications projects.

I managed a team of writers and sub-editors, overseeing the production of The Australian’s business pages.

I was a cadet on The Nottingham Evening Post, one of the UK’s premier regional newspapers. I received a solid grounding in all aspects of journalism.
