I am a passionate about solving operational problems with the design of innovative and technological solutions that combine flexibility, extensibility and reutilization. Since 1997, I developed and managed different kinds of information systems projects, namely, for financial and telecom companies. I have accumulated a large experience leading with interdisciplinary resources in both, private and public sector, and among different countries and cultures.I received the PhD degree (2009-14) in Information Systems and Computer Engineering at IST. The research work that I describe in my dissertation is titled: Optimizing Memory Transactions for Large-Scale Programs. Simply put, the main goal of my work is to provide an efficient alternative to shared-memory synchronization (such as, monitors and locks) in modern managed runtime environments (such as, Java and .Net). I received the BEST Paper Award of ICA3PP’13 for my work, at Vietri sul Mare, Italy.My professional career has been interleaved between the industry and the academy as an Assistant Professor at ISEL and a researcher in CCISEL and INESC-ID. In CCISEL, I collaborate in development of several projects and courses for information systems industry and I have been author of some training courses about Windows Forms, WPF, Data Binding, CLR, Transact SQL and Web Development.Since 2008, I am the vice-president of CCISEL and responsible for the operations management. In 2011, I promoted the first post-graduation in Portugal about programming and technology (PROMPT) for computer professionals, with 10 courses, 9 lecturers, 4 workshops, along two years.
