Trainee Engineer

After completing my bachelor's degree at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, I joined St. Theresa Industries Pvt Limited. In this role, I was involved in the Supporting Electricity Supply Reliability Improvement Project (SESRIP), a 33kV transmission network spanning over 1000 kilometers. The SESRIP, valued at US $160 million, received financing from the Asian Development Bank (US$115 million) and the government of Sri Lanka. Overseeing operations at 16 construction sites, including Maho, Mallawapitiya, Kegalle, Mahiyanganaya, Morawaka, Ampara, Laxapana, among others, I served as a trainee engineer in the Mallawapitiya and Kegalle districts and at the head office in Makola.Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, I went above and beyond my role as a site engineer. My responsibilities extended to liaison with the client, Ceylon Electricity Board, and collaboration with subcontractor teams to ensure project success. Despite my electrical engineering background, I enthusiastically engaged with civil equipment, including level equipment and theodolites. In addition to my site engineering duties, I took on the role of a procurement engineer. I meticulously calculated the material requirements for the various construction sites, collaborating with vendors such as Ceylon Steel, Sierra Cables, Siam City Cement (INSEE), and others. As part of the procurement process, I worked closely with the planning engineer to prepare for future tasks, ensuring materials were procured and delivered on time to meet project deadlines.
