I run Mindapples, a social enterprise that encourages everyone to take better care of their minds and teaches people how our minds work.What this means in practice is that I spend much of my time running training and giving talks about psychology and mental wellbeing, and writing books and other materials to improve public understanding of the mind. We do a lot of work supporting large and small businesses with workplace wellbeing through elearning, talks, webinars and workshops. Our charitable arm provides mental health promotion services to schools and universities, and trains staff and volunteers across the UK in promoting wellbeing. We also have an app, because you have to have an app.Before that I co-founded School of Everything, an online marketplace for learning services, and have tinkered with various other projects including a volunteering app called Do a Bit and a web TV show called The Lock-In. I wrote Social by Social, possibly the first practical guide for charities and campaigners on how to use social media for social impact, and Local by Social, an influential early pamphlet on public service reform. More recently I wrote A Mind for Business, a guide to how our minds work for business leaders which won Gold at the Management Book of the Year Awards, and the follow up The Mind Manual, published by Octopus Publishing. I speak internationally on innovation, mental health and sustainable working, and I've advised many of the world's top organisations on innovation and business performance, including many major investment banks, News UK & Ireland, L'Oreal, PwC, the Wellcome Trust, High Speed Two, Gatwick Airport, Wellington Management, Lend Lease, Accenture, Save the Children and the NSPCC. I'm also a former Trustee of the Royal Society of Arts and Conway Hall Ethical Society.I used to be a historian, but I drifted. Now I'm finding that studying the history of periods of great social change has been the perfect preparation for navigating the swirling waters of the modern age.
