About Amelia Gardner

I am currently a student at Kent State University studying Fashion Merchandising with minors in Sustainability and Media. I am a focused, organized, and adaptable student and professional. My academic and work experience has helped me develop proficient technology skills across industry platforms such as Adobe and Microsoft programs. At my internship with Arhaus Corporate I have had the opportunity to work closely with the buying, product development, and planning teams across categories. This internship has given me insight into the fast-pace, everchanging landscape of the industry and grown my skills and knowledge base tenfold. Through my involvement in the Kent State Fashion Show, I have gained experience in event planning, garment coordination, team management and the fast-paced environment of a fashion show backstage. As a junior coordinator and merchandise coordinator, I had hands-on experience managing show garments and helping designers bring their collections to life. My position at Marta's Boutique gave me a range of industry experience, including visual merchandising, client-based selling, styling, and managing the online aspects of sales and management. As a committed honors student at Kent State University, my classes have provided me with knowledge and experiences in the business of fashion and journalism.

Learning a complex skill like sailing can teach children so much about leadership, independence, and self-confidence if I approach it the right way as an instructor. I am extremely passionate and committed to this organization and I took on this role after over 10 years of involvement with Camp Don Lee. I became a seasonal staff member after completing the Leadership in Training program in 2020, where I gained the certifications and interpersonal growth necessary for this position. As a sailing instructor, I taught children between the ages of 6 to 17. With the younger children, I was able to teach them the basic skills they need and guide them through social and educational development. While working with older groups, I led them through mastering specific watercraft and leading them toward an intensive multi-day trip at the end of their camp experience. These trips required complex trip organization, managing groups of 16 children off-site, and working directly with parks services in our area to plan these excursions. This job was such an amazing experience where I truly felt like I made an impact in my community and grew as a professional leader. The skills I gained here I have used throughout my professional, educational, and personal experiences to this day.
