My teams provided the following services for the organisation:• Facilities management of our office and co-location facilities.• IT support for all staff in a mixed Windows / Linux / MacOS X desktop environment.• Systems support for all internal services, test and build platforms, and public facing services.• Architectural design for all new services including the distributed scale-out hosted service.• Technical Support for our Enterprise and Personal Edition customers.• Procurement of all technology and management of supplier relationships.During my time at RealVNC, I overhauled the operational organisation to allow better management of resources. I was also responsible for a complete infrastructure replacement for our internal platforms, a technology refresh of our customer-facing systems introducing virtual servers, point in time backups and a working DR strategy. We implemented service level monitoring and introduced a 24x7 on-call rota within the systems team to improve our service availability.

Responsible for managing the Hosting, Media and Security Architecture team, who in turn are responsible for product strategy, platform design and implementation for all of Interoute’s managed hosting, media CDN and security products and services throughout Europe. I was required to provide the vision for the product portfolio as well as technical guidance, project and team management. The team was the technical authority for these platforms, meaning that part of my role involved managing relations with the DCs, our central support functions, liaising with our in-country pre and post sales support teams as well as new and existing customers to update them on our roadmaps. Additional responsibilities included:• Complete overhaul of the standards used within all DCs.• Deployment of a centrally managed build & patch platform for RHEL and Windows.• Successful renegotiation of several vendor contracts, securing significant cost savings.• The launch of a new shared storage product into multiple DCs.• Comprehensive Media CDN overhaul including hardware, software and network redesign.• Complete replacement of our Internet Services platform, migrating from Solaris to Linux VMs.• Providing the vision and initial technical design for our new VDC product

Working closely with the Hosting Product Manager and the Hosting and Infrastructure Team to develop build and support products which met all documented requirements. In addition, I was required to provide Tier 4 support for all managed hosting solutions. • Designed and built the Managed Virtual Server product and platform.• Designed the Managed Security Services product.• Designed a new approach to data management, specifically dealing with local backup for physical and virtual servers, off-site storage of backups and Disaster Recovery of data.
