About Gareth Watson
Building successful relationships and interacting well with a diverse mix of people have been fundamental to everything I've done in my career so far, and where my biggest strength is. Having always been passionate about people, and having honed those communication skills in my degree I was able to quickly and naturally fill a leadership role in the financial services industry. I've had lots of opportunities to develop my skills and have really thrived from learning where I succeed and what I'm passionate about. One of my key focus areas has been in Diversity and Inclusion. As an out gay man I have enjoyed driving change in my organisation through educating myself and others by delivering inclusion-focused training to number of different audiences. I've also arranged diversity events, compered conferences and spoken on external panels. This has been incredibly fulfilling on a personal and professional level. As a leader of a department I've come to rely on strong verbal and written communication skills for managing stakeholder relationships at all levels, including external relationships, and influencing policy and process decisions. Having been a leader through both the pandemic and the decommissioning of PPI has driven me to further rely on and develop my communication skills; as I took the lead on Director led calls and communications for hundreds of colleagues across the PPI business area.
