A Chartered Civil Engineer with over 30 years’ experience in the development and delivery of civil and tunnel infrastructure and building projects. Employed in both the private and public sectors, I have gained experience within the Sydney metropolitan area working on major transport infrastructure projects including Lane Cove Tunnel, Epping Chatswood Rail Tunnel and more recently with Ausgrid on major utility infrastructure in Sydney CBD.I have a technical background in ground engineering and tunnelling and previous experience working for engineering consultancies in the United Kingdom, Southern and East Africa and Asia. International experience on large transport infrastructure projects includes Chep Lap Kok airport, Hong Kong and Channel Tunnel, UK. I have worked under a variety of contract delivery models and have experience in all aspects of project management, contract negotiation, stakeholder consultation and planning approvals. I am self motivated, resourceful and enjoy working in a project team environment.

Lead Design Engineer, Lane Cover TunnelParsons Brinckerhoff Jun 2004 - Mar 2006SydneyThis $1.1 billion Thiess/ John Holland JV D&C contract involved construction of twin 3.6km, two and three lane roadheader excavated tunnels linking the M2 motorway to the Gore Hill Freeway together with associated ventilation tunnels. Lead design engineer for the mid-tunnel adit, a roadheader access tunnel and the mid-tunnel ventilation shaft and chamber, a 12m dia., 28m deep excavation connected to a roadheader excavated chamber (10m x 80m x 17m high).I also worked in the role of design project manager for the West and East tunnel portals and Gore Hill Freeway cut and cover and portal access structures. My role included managing the interface with the JV contractor, coordinating design resources, responding to RFI’s, construction quality auditing on site and progress reporting, often working to tight deadlines. -

Based in the project office, I worked in a small team responsible for the geotechnical design of the twin 13km TBM driven rail tunnels. This involved preparation of technical specifications, computational analysis and design reports. A notable success was managing the design of a rock grouting program at the Lane Cove River crossing, the low point in the tunnel alignment, to reduce water inflow into a cut and cover section of the tunnel below the river. I was also employed as lead design engineer for the ground upgrade works at Epping Station which included anchored bored pile retaining walls, ventilation shafts and soil nail supported slopes adjacent to the tracks. -

My role included managing the geotechnical investigation and design engineer for high capacity tension rock anchors beneath the central spine structure, below sea level. I also worked on the airport express rail line termination, where I planned the methodology to successfully induce rapid settlement of deep fill to ensure stringent settlement tolerances were met.While in the UK I worked on a range of projects. A highlight was working on the Warrington Royal Mail Rail hub where I was responsible for the design of earthworks and a subsurface contaminant barrier. I progressed to Principal’s Representative based on site for the earthworks and construction of an 800m perimeter slurry trench containment wall. The site was a heavily contaminated former gasworks site. Both the design and ground works contracts were successfully completed. -
