In my new role supporting the UKLA I will be helping to develop educational films which will help to convey good practice with MWFs, I will continue to work closely with academic, industry and regulatory colleagues to assess the future safe use of new manufacturing methods (automated management of metalworking fluids) and the development of advanced manufacturing and materials (e.g., graphene). -

He is the responsible technical lead for health hazard investigations in areas such as occupational cancer and respiratory allergy. He has contributed to a 7 year study updating estimates of the current and future burden of occupational cancer (led by Dr Lesley Rushton at Imperial College). He has also worked closely with HSE and industry to take forward a programme of research into exposure to used metal working fluids and respiratory allergy. Other research includes investigation of exposure to allergens in the baking industry.Gareth is also leading a team of HSL staff to develop new tools to look after and disseminate expert knowledge.
