Kia ora! I'm Gareth. I have extensive experience working in a variety of teams across multiple output points of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, as an Aircraft Technician. I am a passionate, hardworking, and loyal employee. I enjoy problem solving and being hands on in my role, working in tight knit teams with a positive culture. My predominant training as an Aircraft Technician has been on fixed wing aircraft - namely the P3 Orion, with some additional work on the C-130H Hercules and the Boeing 757. I have just completed two years working in the Propulsion section, overhauling engines and propellers and air power units (APUs); and previously my work included a posting to an operational squadron where I was able to travel as part of various teams around our economic exclusion zone (EEZ) and further afield, working closely with colleagues from a range of different trades and backgrounds towards common goals. I hold the Corporal rank, so part of my work is to support and supervise those working as reports to me. I work hard to be encouraging and supportive, and lead my team positively. I have completed the Corporal Technician Supervision Course (CTSC), which is the first step towards Sergeant level work in my trade. I look forward to future opportunities to excel in my work and see in new aircraft to continue contributing to a force for New Zealand. In terms of personal achievements, my wife and I proudly bought our first home in 2018, and our first investment property in 2021. I also converted a ford transit van into our dream first campervan (I say first because I will probably try again with a new design one day)! I love spending my spare time mountain biking and hiking when the weather favours it, and on a cold wet day you can also find me in my kitchen whipping up some delicious baking or testing out a new recipe for dinner. I also love problem solving under the hood of a project vehicle!

My wife was previously the Duke of Edinburgh's Programme Manager for Bigfoot Adventures - through her work, I was invited to attend trainings and experience outdoor instruction with young people. This offered me a unique perspective on delivery techniques when in my usual role. I enjoyed the ultimate culmination of my time with Bigfoot, working on a week long camp in an assistant instructor role to introduce the Duke of Edinburgh's International award to attendees and facilitate their safe enjoyment of their adventure camp, set at Wenderholm and Mahurangi Regional Parks and involving kayaking, raft building, hiking, campcraft and orienteering.
