Turnitin's success is in large part due to our excellent relationships with content partners.Having been promoted from my previous role, I managed a key business partnership with critical importance to the business. That involved negotiating contracts, overseeing SLAs, managing billing, customer success, and being the main point of contact both internally and externally for partnerships up to several million dollars in annual revenue.This role included leading a significant contract renewal which came with a major shift in Turnitin's business model with this partner. I was responsible for securing the new deal, implementing the operational changes, and ensuring a smooth experience and successful outcomes for all stakeholders.On request, I took on an interim Product Manager role in a different area of the business alongside my day-to-day responsibilities.I also jointly led the UK Corporate Social Responsibility team, working with two charities to arrange fundraising events and volunteering opportunities.

Seeking a sideways move from engineering into a different function, I joined Turnitin's partnerships team. My role was to deliver information to sales, support and other teams, manage content delivery and webcrawling processes, and resolve issues with third parties.I noticed that one of Turnitin's major content partnerships was at risk due to account management issues, and I recognised the strategic importance of making improvements. I put myself forward to take on the relationship, and resolved all of their concerns. This led to my promotion to Partnerships Manager.

I was approached to return to Agility as a senior programmer. Amongst other successful product launches, I led the redesign of an existing product. This had been written on an old language (Visual Basic 6.0) and I moved it on to a more modern one (Visual Basic .NET). This required me to essentially operate as a one-man product team, playing the roles of product manager, technical lead, engineer, researcher and designer.

Again looking to broaden my experience and build 'softer' skills alongside my technical expertise, I negotiated going down to 4 days/week at HPE (see below) in order to increase my engagement with church projects 1 day/week. This involved managing complex projects, logistical organising, risk management, problem-solving, and translating their vision into strategic operations and processes. I was self-managed throughout.Examples included:• I organised an evening community and outreach event bringing in 200 people (including many from outside the church).• I was the lead organiser for a new festival called Catalyst in both its 1st and 2nd year. This included overseeing the logistics of transporting, site planning and hosting 120 people at a 4 day conference.• I instigated a new community & communications initiative, a blog series, and was its sole editor. This included handling inbound and outbound suggestions for contributions, collaborating with the writers to improve the content, and designing and managing the relevant part of the website.

This was a high pressure environment, where clients required speedy resolution of issues, which were closely monitored.I was consistently the highest scoring agent, and was singled out to move with my manager to a specialised team he was taking over, where highly trusted staff were needed. I was then promoted to manage the team to cover a period of extended sick leave.

I joined Agility as a school leaver in an apprenticeship position. I came in with no professional or technical experience, and learned to code from scratch on the job. I thrived in the start-up environment where I pitched in with customer support, organisational planning, and product delivery. By the time I moved on I was an instrumental part of the team.The product was EPOS software to the retail market. Through my engineering and customer success responsibilities (including travelling to work with clients onsite, involving relationship building and problem solving), I learned about financial and stock management for retail businesses.
