The Eileen McCallum Trust is a voluntary organisation set up by families in Scotland who are affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy.The aim of trust is to provide financial support to families affected by DMD to ensure their sons have the equipment and care services they require for an improved quality of life.Being a voluntary organisation, all funds raised go directly towards those who require it, boys and young men who have been unfortunate enough to be born with such a devastating condition.Veteran actress Eileen McCallum is the charity's patron and one of five trustees. Since her grandsons were diagnosed with Duchenne she has campaigned tirelessly at the Scottish Parliament and brought much need awareness of the condition to the attention of the people in Scotland.Inspired by Eileen's efforts, the families in Scotland decided to name the charity in her honour.Government cuts, as a result of the global economic crisis, will leave Duchenne families in an ever worsening financial predicament as their care services and adaptation grants will be cut. It will also become extremely difficult to obtain suitable equipment such as, wheelchairs, respiratory machines and beds. The Eileen McCallum Trust aims to alleviate the hardship they may face in the future.
