I am a country boy, having grown up on the family farm in Wiltshire and as with all farming families, hard work and family values are indoctrinated at an early age. These are values that I bring to my professional life now. Fiercely old fashioned in the way I do business, I regard my word as my bond and would rather lose a deal than renege on an agreement.After gaining an HND in Agriculture at University, I then worked as a tractor driver, excavator operator and concrete finisher before I was employed as technical salesman for a precast concrete manufacturer. This background “on the tools” has given me a pragmatic approach to problem solving and keeping things simple. I was instrumental in increasing the company’s turnover from £2.5 million to £8 million before my departure.In 2009 we set up a new business called RSG Structures Ltd, which is an independent solution provider specialising in precast concrete and tension membrane building construction packages. RSG has a multimillion pound turnover derived from offering its clients complete design and build packages. RSG undertakes work ranging from small value privately run projects to acting as the prime contractor for major construction projects in the order of £1million. We like to adopt a “can-do” attitude when looking at projects and where others may say “it can’t be done”, I love to prove them wrong and make it happen.Through my work in the precast industry with RSG the KarabloK concept was developed. I was instrumental in getting the product tested and subsequently bringing it to market. It is the only foundationless precast concrete barrier system in the world compliant with both ISO IWA14-1, ASTM F2656 as well as NATO’s STANAG 2280 standards. Projects completed so far include a blast wall for a munitions store, entrance protection works for a nuclear facility, protection of a federal building from HVM attack and protection of a personnel building in a nuclear facility.With a view to establishing KarabloK as the by-word for protection and safety around the world we are developing a global network of licensees with regional rights to market and manufacture the block. To date we have formed companies in the UK, US and Australia and are in discussions with partners in theMiddle East and Africa.
