The Technical Solutions Consultant role was very varied. The library division of Capita provides library management systems for a large number of UK customers spread across both the academic and public sector markets. The key elements of the role were broken into three separate areas.1) I was responsible for offering 3rd line application support within Unix, Linux and Windows environments. The support covered bespoke software applications and standard server services and processes. The majority of support involved resolving issues with the Sybase database using SQL queries. The SQL queries could be simple data searching through to more involved data correction and database fixing.2) Managing the technical relationship with 3rd party vendors which involved - understanding what the partner requirements were, preparing documentation to support the implementation process, enable access to a test environment and directly working with the partner to put a solution in place before deploying in a live environment. The majority of the services implemented were making use of in house RESTful web services3) Webpage design and scripting to support specific customer requirements. The online offering could be individually skinned and I utilised HTML, CSS, Javascript and jQuery to build web pages and functionality as per customer requirements.

The support consultant role was first and second line support for our series of bespoke products. This was a varied role due to the number of products in our range and key skills included SQL, UNIX & LINUX.
