Operating the DHC8 Q400 78 seat passenger aircraft on Flybe’s extensive UK domestic network, including London City airport, as well as to numerous Continental European destinations. I was based at Exeter, in the South West of England and gained my Command in July, 2016. In 2018 I took the opportunity of a secondment to the Company’s Flight Safety Department where I received training in flight accident and incident investigation. My role in the FSD was to risk assess, investigate and report on accidents and incidents involving the Company’s turboprop and e-jet aircraft. During this time my work was 50% flying and 50% office based. As a Captain I was an active participant in Flybe’s Pilot Mentoring programme and took great pleasure in helping a number of Exeter based First Officers along their path to Command.

I joined Eastern at Newcastle and operated on their scheduled passenger services around the UK and into Europe. I also took part in charter flights for the oil industry and football clubs.

At BFC I instructed on the Centre’s busy JAA CPL, MEP and IR courses. This included ground instruction, briefings and instruction in fixed base FNPT2 simulators as well as a number of charter flights for Centreline Air Charter in the Foster Yeoman PA-31 Navajo and CAC’s King Air 200.

EFT was a busy flying school providing integrated and modular flight training for JAA (now EASA) private and commercial licences at Fort Pierce airfield on Florida’s East coast. I gained my JAA FI(A) rating here as well as the FAA CPL/IR/FI ratings necessary to provide commercial instruction in US airspace.

As part of the Constabulary’s training department I shared the task of designing and delivering IT training to the Force’s numerous uniformed and support staff. This focussed on use of the Microsoft Office software suite, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint. I was also the lead trainer for the specialist investigative and analytical software application “i2”, running week-long courses and providing post-course telephone assistance where necessary.
