Pro: Generally a good writer.Con: Hate writing about myself.As I type this and try to distill a 13-year career into (less than) 2,600 characters, I think the defining trait of my experience to date is being unafraid to say "yes":"Yes" to beginning an accounting career by going to work for a public school district."Yes" to uprooting cities and trying my hand at investment banking."Yes" to feeling the call of home and working remotely for a year.And, currently, "yes" to learning a new industry and returning to my accounting roots.What have I learned from this whirlwind? Primarily that I'm a relatively quick study and thrive on tasks that allow me to use the full range of my critical thinking skills. I'm an analytical thinker by nature, and time moves most quickly for me when I'm allowed to break down and reassemble a puzzle.I've also learned that I love being part of a team. Maybe that's a call back from high school athletics, but I want to lead by example and be a person that people look to for guidance and assistance. My best days are not highlighted by what I've done, but rather by who I've helped.Finally, I'm extremely competitive. I want to win, but only so long as I can bring people with me.But no one is entirely defined by where he works or his job title. I'm no different. My weekends are made up of golf (assuming the temperature is above, say, 45 degrees), Creighton athletics, Oregon football, lawn work, and simply trying to be the best husband, son, brother, and uncle that I can be. Recharging in my down time allows me to be at my best for my colleagues and teammates.
