The program is in its early stages (current projects include planning a transition to M365, updating our VMWare environment, developing a cloud migration strategy, and reviewing specific applications to meet business needs). Managing a $6.5 million grant that focuses on developing and deploying new technology to measure broadband in rural communities, including the design of a Raspberry-Pi based measurement tool, a web-based dashboard for managing and administering the measurement system, and new mapping services to help visualize complex broadband data.Heading up technical design efforts and device integration for our next-generation telemedicine carts, funded by a $9.5 million grant to improve telehealth services and broadband adoption throughout the Alaska Tribal Health System.Acting Director for the Telehealth Technology Assessment Center, a HRSA-funded Telehealth Resource Center that focuses on telehealth technology assessment and education.

ANTHC gave me the opportunity to try something new by asking that I start up a dedicated service line to meet the growing A/V & VTC needs of our urban campus and our statewide telemedicine network. As a bit of a videography and photography nerd is was hard to say no. We built a team to support everything from routine training seminars to visits from the First Lady to government-to-government negotiations. On the A/V side, we focused on standardizing our technology across 55 conference and training rooms and providing top-notch services to in-person and virtual events. On the VTC side, we ran a statewide initiative to transition from a legacy Vidyo-based platform to Zoom, supporting over 200 remote village locations across Alaska. Then this little "COVID" thing happened and demand for our services exploded - we designed and built new VTC platforms for healthcare operations and general administration, worked our way around supply chain issues, stood up a virtual emergency operations center for our tertiary care facility, supported our in-house development team as they built a new Zoom-based patient care platform, transitioned a workforce of 3,700 to work from home, and successfully pursued a $900,000 grant to buy, build out, and deploy telehealth capabilities in response to the pandemic. I was also part of the team that received a $6.5 million grant to develop new broadband measurement capabilities across 25 counties in four states, and took on the technical lead role for the project.

Cutting-edge telehealth products don't build themselves. As Director of Product Development for ANTHC's telehealth program I oversee all activities related to development, deployment, and support of telehealth applications used within our tertiary care facility and tribal health organizations around the state. Ranging from videoconferencing platforms, store-and-forward systems, mobile applications, and Electronic Health Record integrations, my team strives to make excellent products that solve real-world problems.

What can I say, I am a child of the sea. Born and raised in the commercial fishing village of Sand Point, Alaska, I have had the ocean in my blood since birth. My father still occasionally needs help running his commercial fishing boat, and I sometimes avail myself to his interests. Most people take two weeks of vacation to lounge on a beach and get away from work; I take two weeks off to work harder than most people can even imagine by wrangling black cod and halibut from the depths of Resurrection Bay.

Do you know how to select cutting-edge telehealth equipment for your organization? No, you say? Well, you are not alone. The Telehealth Technology Assessment Center (TTAC) was created when ANTHC was approached by a federal agency with an ambitious but vague vision - make a national resource center to help other organizations evaluate and select telehealth technologies. Half mad-science lab, half educational center, I directed the TTAC to do quite a lot with scant resources. Our funding agency was thrilled with our output.• Established a federally funded technology assessment center with an annual budget of $275,000• Created educational toolkits for a national audience, teaching the fundamentals of technologyassessment for 13 different telehealth-related technologies• Presented findings and educational content at national conferences and through online webinars• Served as technical liaison and expert for a group of eight Telehealth Resource Centers• Worked with clinical and technical staff to ensure that product evaluations were rigorous and thateducational materials were useful to diverse audiences• Designed and maintained an interactive website that hosted all materials• Directed activities of TTAC employee and additional research personnel

When the Software Development Manager position opened up for the internationally-acclaimed AFHCAN telemedicine project, my supervisor was told that I was under-qualified for the position. The team took issue with their claim, gave me the reins, and had me manage a group of peers many years my senior.
