I'm involved at all stages of the product lifecycle from sales and conceptual development, to design and engineering, to fabrication and commissioning.
Mechanical Engineer
As a Mechanical Engineer in the Mining Technology group, I was responsible for:- Understanding customer requirements and developing feasible solutions. - Concept development, design, and project management for various pieces of equipment, including: lifting devices (ASME B30.20), storage racks, conveyors, processing equipment, pump skids, copper bus work, jumper frames, shorting shunts, and other specialized applications for copper SXEW. - Utilizing Solidworks to create 3D Models and 2D Drawings for manufacturing. - Engineering designs to match CAID's internal capabilities, including laser cutting, plasma cutting, waterjet cutting, sheet metal forming (press brakes and rolls), machining, stamping, punching and welding.- General Project Management, including customer interaction, scheduling, cost tracking, material coordination, and fabrication support. - Material and labor estimates for project costing, and technical sales support including writing proposals and reviewing contracts.- Ensuring products meet customers expectations, and improving product designs.
Manufacturing Engineer
- Supported the design, assembly and testing of hydraulic control valves for the US Navy’s Submarines.- Analyzed engineering drawings and procedure data to determine product acceptance.- Dispositioned non-conforming parts & determined solutions for test failures.- Developed tooling including 3D CAD (Creo) design, material sourcing, and drawing review. - Wrote detailed work instructions for assembly and operation of equipment. - Interfaced with contractors and suppliers to meet project objectives.
Mechancial Engineer
- Worked toward scaling pre-production prototypes of an electric vehicle as one of two engineers in a Silicon Valley startup.- Reprogrammed vehicle controllers to optimize performance of the electric motor. - Made design modifications to an existing Solidworks 3D CAD database to improve manufacturability. - Established vehicle testing and maintenance tracking for the small fleet of pre-production units.- Interfaced with dealerships, investors, and customers to promote the product.
Drill Site Manager

Senior Design Project
Our Senior Design Team built a universally controllable platform which allowed mentally and physically impaired children to move themselves independently, thereby aiding their navigational and spatial development. The final design involved:- Multiple control systems including buttons, remotes, and joysticks that could be customized to a child's abilities. - The use of cordless drill motors that were programmed and controlled by an Arduino microcontroller. - Several safety measures including a kill-switch and supervisory remote which could override the control system. The project was well received by the students of the Little Light House, and received the 2012 OSPE Outstanding Student Engineering Award.
Engineering Design Intern
- Developed an optimization spreadsheet using Excel and Visual Basic which calculated design parameters from a database of materials and outputted an optimized list of possible beams and columns for overhead bridge cranes. - Audited calculations to comply with overhead crane design standards. - Completed and modified 3D CAD Assemblies using SolidWorks.
Intern/Floorhand
I spent two summers working as a floorhand on H&P's FlexRigs (Rigs 320, 324 and 325) in western Colorado (Piceance Basin) as part of their summer internship program. I gained a significant amount of hands-on experience and appreciation for the industry. As a “roughneck” I was subject to whatever the job happened to entail, including the 90 hour work weeks.
