Hello! My name is Garrett Lang, a recent graduate of the University of Richmond who is interested in the social determinants of health. I am both fascinated and puzzled by the U.S. healthcare system, with all of its strengths and weaknesses. While we have some of the best medical technology, facilities, and doctors in the world, many Americans cannot afford these services. I got a glimpse of these disparities during my time volunteering for and co-directing my university's chapter of Camp Kesem, a non-profit summer camp and year-long support system for children who have parents affected by cancer. This experience in particular has helped shape my career goals. I want to help Americans of all background achieve quality healthcare - including treatment and preventive options.
