Working under the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine to research the affects that diverse anesthetic agents have on memory formation while experiencing painful stimulation. By better understanding the affects these drugs have on the neural correlates of successful memory encoding and fear-learning during drug-induced sedation, anesthesiologists can more precisely prevent the formation of harmful memories during painful procedures.Utilizing multiple functions, I developed a MATLAB script to automate the data analysis process. By inputting the raw EKG data, and identifying specific time markers, I could determine a participant's exact heart rate before and after a series of events. The results of this analysis were used to draw conclusions about the formation of implicit memories between three different drug classes.
