The lab has forced me to think out of the box in order to solve various problems, such as 3D printing parts and conducting small experiments for efficient instrumentation. I was also awarded the frost scholarship and had the opportunity to spend the summer working in Dr. Bockmon's laboratory.

Conception. My role was to develop and maintain a water flow system that provides filtered seawater to 44 individual ‘mating’ chambers. With marine organisms on the line, prompt revisions occurred frequently to ensure consistent filtered ocean water reaches each chamber.

My objective was to test multiple pH sensors to understand their capacity to be incorporated within a small surfboard fin. I wrote software to communicate with microcontrollers and sensors, designed 3D printed parts, ran controlled experiments to test the pH sensors, analyzed data output, assembled functioning Smartfins (soldering, testing circuits & potting), and deployed sensor packages in the ocean environment. -
