I completed a Cyber Security Certificate program at NCTC in December of 2020. I really enjoyed all the classes, and am eager to pursue certifications in the coming months. One of the more interesting areas of study was computer virtualization. Working with Amazon Web Services, VMWare, and Virtual Box was fascinating, and the benefits and potential of this technology is enormous. The other areas of study included-~ CCNA 1&2, Networking, Routing and Switching Essentials- Configuring Cisco routers and switches, networking, protocols, creating logical network diagrams with Packet Tracer~ Smoothwall Firewall and Network Security- Install and configure Smoothwall firewall on virtual machines, access control lists~ Snort Intrusion Detection System- Install and configure Snort Intrusion detection system, rule writing fundamentals ~ Installation and Configuration of Linux OS- Ubuntu, Kali, and Fedora distributions~ Technical Customer Service- Help Desk services and Business Writing~ Information Technology Security- Physical and network security best practices, Wireshark network monitoring, Windows host security, PowerShell ~ Incident Response and Handling- Forensic toolkit, Use and Misuse cases, Laws, Chain of Evidence.Because information security is a constantly changing and challenging field, the ability to learn and apply new concepts and tools is important. These classes, some of which were condensed from 16 weeks to 8 weeks, provided a sort of proving ground for learning new information and effectively deploying it.
