I'm an author, independent historian and tour guide in Santa Fe, New Mexico, having written and published eight books, most recently "A Decade of Disruption: America in the New Millennium." I lead tours through The Smithsonian Associates, Politics & Prose Bookstore, and other organizations, and am always available for private groups. I serve as a board member and marketing director for the Santa Fe Professional Tour Guides.A proud moment was being involved in lobbying the DC City Council to have the "Rickey" declared Washington's official cocktail in 2011. My book, "Prohibition in Washington, DC," provided documentary evidence for the Rickey's provenance. A character from that same book, congressional bootlegger George Cassiday, also provided the inspiration for Green Hat Gin. And through my "Capital Beer" book research, I pinpointed the site of the Washington Brewery at Navy Yard, the first brewery in the city. The site is owned by the General Services Administration (GSA) and will one-day be excavated.I'm highly organized and like bringing order to chaos. Maybe that's why I enjoy creating and leading tours so much: it's a lot of enjoyable cat herding. Above all, I believe in perseverance: it took me six years to publish my first book. Once I set a goal, nothing deters me. My motto: Leave no stone unturned.
