My name is Garrett Wertz and I am currently a Biology teacher at Monrovia High School. I graduated from Milligan College in May of 2020 with a B.S. in Biology and a B.S. in Secondary Education. During my senior year, I student-taught at Liberty Bell Middle School for the first half of the semester before transitioning to Elizabethton High School. Unfortunately, this experience was cut short because of COVID, but during this time, I was able to solo teach a biology class virtually. This was made possible by the fact that I am a google-certified educator. Because of this, I was able to effectively integrate my knowledge of teaching with google classroom to create an enriching learning environment for the students, even though they were at home. Prior to working at Monrovia, I taught Biology for 2 years at Martinsville High School.As the old adage says, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". Aside from studying at Milligan, I was also a member of the Milligan men’s varsity soccer team for the four years I attended. During this time, I had the opportunity to learn the game I had grown up playing in a much deeper way. This experience has helped me become the Monrovia boy's head soccer coach now. In the 2020-2021 season, I was the assistant coach, and after seeing my knowledge and coaching style, I was offered the head coach position for the 2022-2023 season. We had the best season the team has had in at least the last 10 years and placed higher in our conference than the team had in quite some time.Regardless of whether I am in the classroom or on the field, I take pride in what I am doing and strive for excellence. I am a dedicated worker who can integrate experience, knowledge, and application in a meaningful way.
