For this position, I was tasked with managing a group of 21 first-time interns through completing their engineering projects for AgCertain. By using basic project management principles; Having well-defined project goals and objectives, defined deliverables, and identifying priorities and milestones. I successfully structured and completed the required objectives with my fellow intern members for their internships and my own. Additionally, I researched and quoted a P.L.C. system for data acquisition to create automated reports on production losses and unit operation efficiencies. The proposed changes in tandem with the P.L.C system would quantify glycerin product losses to our vacuum system. They would allow us to trend the bed life of our carbon beds concerning operating conditions to optimize bed life. If we were to reach 100% of our conservative goals, it would result in an estimated R.O.I. of ~$700,000 over 3 years with an IRR of 24%.

At this work position, I am required to understand both the oil and glycerin process and operate both independently. During operations, we periodically take product samples to do in-process QC tests to ensure that the product we are making is within specifications requested by the contractor of the shipment. Some of the specifications that we are required to comply with are that our product is SQF, Organic, and Kosher certified. As an employee at Agertain, I personally ensure all of the processing aids I use are in line with our certifications and will produce a product within the specifications requested by any business we work with. Additionally, I have taken on multiple engineering projects. The first project of the summer was the optimization of our Glycerin's W.F.E. processes via statistical analysis of historical production data trends; the goal was to better standardize a regular matainance procedures and operating conditions in order to recover as much product as possible. Throughout the rest of the summer, I was tasked with the drafting and update of our Glycerin PIDS, drafting SOP documents for our Carbon Bed exchanges, and into this school year, I have been tasked with creating technical and informational unit operation documents for unit processes throughout the plant.
