The GDPR Awareness Coalition was a not-for-profit, fixed-term initiative, launched in March 2017, to assist in raising awareness of the data privacy obligations for companies from the global multinational to single employee traders, as a result of implementation of GDPR by 25th May 2018.With roots going back to Feb 2017 with an initial call for collaborators by me, the Coalition at Launch had 66 partner companies including GDPR experts, vendors, legal, fiscal, event and general collaborators. On its Hard Stop (Fixed Date) the coalition had a total of 147 Global Volunteer Ambassadors from 37 countries with 13m impressions of its content on Social media and 12,000 Downloads of its infographics.In addition, Dennis Jennings, Ireland’s only member of the “Internet Hall of Fame,” will serve as a co-chair with me Ethos is #SimpleGDPR • Gather as many Coalition members with a single purpose: “Raising Awareness”• The subject matter is complete, the Coalition’s collateral is simple• Work with associations and other industry groups to run online / offline, not-for-profit events What was the motivation and logic behind this initiative?“The power is in the collective. Collaboration / co-opetition is a very powerful thing.”The motivation for the establishment of the initiative was a result of the growing concern that awareness of GDPR in Ireland was very imbalanced. Awareness appeared to be very high in multinational businesses to quite low within the construction and retail sectors for example.“Ireland has a very strong and well-respected international reputation for being a leader in the digital asset hosting sector,” “With many of the world’s leading companies calling Ireland home for their operations in Europe, it was a concern to me when I read some of the recent reports that Ireland had a below-average awareness of the GDPR in comparison to other EU countries. I felt if we could help raise this awareness, we should.”

Having acquired Bellscan in 2000 we set out to change the profile of the company from being an Access Control only company to a full service Time and Attendance Company with solid IP and annuity revenue streams. With the renaming of the company to Engage Technology we secured both Enterprise Ireland and private funding to relaunch the company and a range of web based products called "Clearview".We had consistent local and international growth with the products leading to a successful trade sale to Northgate HR in 2006. Northgate HR is a leading HR, Payroll and now Time and attendance company who have integrated the products and services into their wider portfolio. My role was in a General Management and sales capacity working closely with the Development and Sales teams to initially redesign and remaster the products for the web and in 2004 changing the platform from a closed operating environment to an open standards based platform

We established BridgeCom in 1994 and we quickly established ourselves as the leading Voice and Data Systems integration company in Ireland prior to its acquisition by Esat Telecom (BT Ireland) in 1998. BridgeCom was the number 1 reseller of 3Com in Ireland and were accredited with Cabletron, Cisco and Bay on the active side and Lucent , Siemon and BICC for structured wiring. I was responsible for the sales and marketing of the company from startup in 1994 when we had 9 employees to disposal in 1998 with a head count of close to 100 and revenues in excess of 10m Euro PA.

BridgeCom was acquired by Esat Telecom (BT Ireland) in June 1998 and became the Systems Integration unit within th enlarged Entity. BridgeCom continued to grow within the Esat Family and was part of the Esat Brand which was aquired by British Telecom in 2000. I continued to be part of the executive team within Esat and assisted in the aquisition of both Viewpoint and Kedington into the enlarged company.

Business Automation (BA Systems) was aquired by ICL hence the company name change, moved into the Voice/Data Integration group specialising in Converged IP/IPX/NetBios/XNS networks in particular IP / Unix integration to Novell and MS Lan Manager,

Joined Business Automation direct from College , quickly established voice and data connectivity as the growth area and subsiquantly became speacialist in Novell, 3Com and IBM mid systems integration. 89 moved to sales and was part of team who designed, installed and transferred some of Ireland first, largest and most challenging networks.
