Global Breadfruit manages tissue-culture mass production and distribution of alternative food crops for the global market. We have developed tissue culture and greenhouse protocols for the successful propagation and weaning of high-performance varieties of breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) in close collaboration with the National Tropical Botanical Garden, and in full compliance with the Convention on Biodiversity. To date, tens of thousands of breadfruit trees have been supplied by Global Breadfruit into over 30 tropical countries as a long-term source of sustenance for the local population; each breadfruit tree will feed a family of four over the next 50-70 years or longer. With Global Breadfruit, we are applying the expertise and methods of the ornamental plant industry to mass-produce alternative food crops.

Kientzler is a family-owned young plant company that was founded in 1904, and is now managed by the third and fourth Kientzler generations. Kientzler specializes in the production of young plants of a wide range of bedding plants, perennials and other ornamental species. Over the past two decades, Kientzler has gained quite a reputation for innovation and marketing in the ornamental industry. I was responsible for new product development, breeder contacts, breeding, intellectual property management, public relations and marketing. During my time there, I was directly involved in the successful introduction of many new ornamental crops to the international horticulture industry, including many ground-breaking branded programs such as PARADISE impatiens, SURFINIA petunias, MILLION BELLS calibrachoas, concepts such as HERBSTZAUBER, FRÜHLINGSFLIRT and KRÄUTERLUST, as well as unique programs such as the WOLLEMI PINE.

Proven Winners is a network of like-minded young plant companies that have joined forces to collectively scout for, trial, produce, introduce and market new bedding plant varieties to the internation floriculture industry. Proven Winners has become the number one plant brand in the North American industry; the network collectively produces about 200 million units under the Proven Winners brand every year. Together with John Rader, I created the concept and nurtured the network to its current expanse, which includes PW members in Japan, Australia, South Africa and in all key EU countries.

InnovaPlant is a company specializing in product development and breeding of new ornamental species and varieties, tissue culture initiation and production, pathogen indexing, production and sale of pathogen-indexed elite stock material, and intellectual property management. InnovaPlant pioneered the implementation of stringent pathogen-indexing and elite stock practices with the entire range of vegetatively propagated bedding plant and perennial crops, and is now one of the premier suppliers of elite stock in the ornamental industry. InnovaPlant also has a large subsidiary in Sarchi, Costa Rica (InnovaPlant de Costa Rica s.a.), producing unrooted cuttings and tissue culture plants for the international floriculture market. I was a founding member of InnovaPlant, and acted as Vice President during my time there.
