Prior to assuming responsibility as my father's attorney-in-fact and primary caregiver, I worked in a number of fields in the Environmental Services profession. From 2003 to 2009 I worked for Kenney Aerial Mapping as an aerial photographer/orthophoto imaging technician/AutoCAD editor. I created procedures manuals for each of those duty areas. Prior to that I worked for Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD) as a geographical information systems (GIS) Temp. I first became interested in GIS and remote sensing (RS) while working at the Nevada Test Site (NTS) as a Technical Writer. I became enamored with GIS/RS and, when the opportunity arose for me to get educated in these fields, I seized it. Following a voluntary reduction-in-force at the NTS, I enrolled in the College of Southern Nevada's GIS/RS program and have aggressively pursued both education and experience in these fields since. My career at NTS included positions as a Technical Writer, Senior Technical Writer, and Senior Staff Assistant. As a Technical Writer I edited reports, scientific publications, as well as policy and procedures manuals. Assignments included supporting the REECo Environment and Health Division, Industrial Hygiene Department, Defense Waste Management Department, Environmental Compliance Office, and the Basic Environmental Compliance and Monitoring Project (BECAMP). As a Senior Staff Assistant, sixty percent of my time was spent compiling budget data into reports; the remainder of my time was spent attending to personnel, inventory, and other administrative tasks. I wrote procedures manuals for every duty in this position.Specialties: caregiving, aerial photography, orthophoto production, AutoCAD drawing, AutoCAD editing, GIS map making, GIS analysis, programming, technical writing, budget analysis, budget reporting, and terrestrial photography
Listed skills include Gis, Arcgis, Remote Sensing, Cartography, and 46 others.

With the decease of my stepmother on 5 April 2014 in Port Angeles, WA, I assumed the primary role in managing my father's affairs. He suffered from senile dementia. I traveled from Las Vegas several times and spent a total of 156 days in Port Angeles between four separate trips as his caregiver and manager of his personal affairs. He vested me with general durable power of attorney (DPOA) and healthcare power of attorney. (I learned that being designated DPOA earns one the title of attorney-in-fact, which does not make me an attorney in the customary sense. ) I also assumed responsibility as his representative payee for Social Security income and as the executor of his estate upon his eventual decease. I made application on his behalf for veterans health care benefits, veterans pension benefits, Medicaid, and Medicare Part D. I was designated fiduciary agent for my father's veterans' benefits. One month after his wife passed, my father was hospitalized with digoxin toxicity, a condition brought on by the concentration of heart medication in his bloodstream caused by dehydration and malnutrition. After stabilizing him in the hospital, I moved him to a convalescent center where in three months he made a remarkable recovery, sufficient to merit moving him to an assisted-living facility where he received twenty-four hour professional caregiver services.During this period managed his finances and played a key role in the disposition of his personal effects and the sale of his home and automobile. Also, I had to educate myself on the nature of senile dementia and the most effective means of working with someone who suffers this affliction. In addition, I engaged the Washington Department of Social and Health Services as my father's Appellant Representative in an appeal of the termination of health care coverage and long-term care based on defective notice and failure of due process. That case was resolved with a stipulated dismissal (no jurisdiction).
Projects included a photo shoot of the Western High School Class of 1968 60th birthday celebrated at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, NV; a photo shoot of a gathering of friends and family in Yosemite National Park; the opening of a neighborhood family restaurant; and a retrospective on Palmer Station, Antarctica, which entailed scanning and reprocessing photos from 1982.
While attending school, I super-insulated the attic in our home with rigid closed-cell insulation. The aim was to convert an unconditioned space into a conditioned space. I am also planning the replacement of our roof with a superinsulated upgrade using rigid polyisocyanurate foam insulation.
Enrolled in Contract Law class under the UNLV Paralegal program in an effort to acquire the understanding and skills needed to effectively complete the contracts I'm preparing for the renovation of our home. Course material covers contract formation and performance as well as breach. Class lasted for six weeks after which I undertook independent study of contract law aimed at the formation of a contract for the renovation of the roof of our home accompanied by the installation of a solar electric system. Progress on that project was delayed as a consequence of the decease of my stepmother and my having assumed the role of caregiver and personal manager for my father in Port Angeles, Washington.
Designed and helped weld and install three shade sail anchor posts in our backyard. These posts function to anchor three shade sails that protect our vegetable garden (which I also designed, excavated by hand, and planted) as well as the back of our house from the summer sun. The style of the anchor posts is folk art. The materials are tube steel, steel rings in various sizes, and laser cut steel plates. Each post suggests a bespectacled and winged human-like form. Each post is crowned with its own unique metal sculpture from another artist, each paying homage to the female form.

In addition to work as an aerial photographer and orthophoto technician with Kenney Aerial Mapping, also worked as an AutoCAD editor. Used AutoCAD Land Desktop (LD) and AutoCAD Map to prepare survey maps for submission to the client. In LD, separated the 3D layers into one digital terrain model (DTM) file and the 2D layers into a second plan file. Then generated a complete digital terrain model (DTM) drawing. From that drawing, created contours and wrote those to a separate drawing file. In AutoCAD Map, combined plan drawings with contour drawings, and edited the map to meet client requirements. Deliverables were normally two digital drawings, the finished map drawing and the finished DTM drawing, burned to a CD. In most instances, KAM also delivered a plotted hard copy of the map. If an orthophoto had been requested by the client, also burned the tiff and world file (twf) to the CD. Compiled and edited a detailed operating procedure for this job.
In addition to my duties as an aerial photographer and AutoCAD editor, also worked as an orthophoto imaging technician. Used Socet Set software to create orthophotos of our aerial survey photo sites. Used digital terrain model data from compiled drawings to manipulate digitized photos into geographically correct images so that features in a AutoCAD drawing matched exactly features in the orthophoto. Created orthophotos not only from single photos but also from multi-model, multi-flightline photo sequences. Also, became adept at auto-extraction and interactive extraction where DTM data may not have been available from compiled images and needed to be generated from photo stereomodels in Socet Set. Compiled and edited a detailed operating procedure for this job.
Planned and executed aerial survey photo missions in Nevada, California, Arizona, and Utah. Most work was done over the Las Vegas Valley in class B airspace in a Cessna 206 Stationair with Zeiss 15/23 RMK A aerial survey camera bolted to the floor of the plane. Frame size 9-in by 9-in. Focal length is six inches. Film reel length is 270 feet. Job required photographic skills and familiarity with the public land survey system to locate remote parcels for photography. Required close coordination between the pilot and the photographer to ensure that the correct site was targeted and that the series of photos began and ended as planned at the correct altitude. Good planning and precision were required for work in the Las Vegas Class B airspace, which is one of the busiest in the country. Flight crew was often only permitted a single pass over a site. Had a reputation with McCarran air traffic controllers (ATC) as the most reliable and fastest aerial photo team operating in this area. Compiled and edited a detailed operating procedure for this job.
When initially hired into Kenney Aerial Mapping, was brought in as a compiler. Drew maps in AutoCAD from diapositive images projected in 3D on a Zeiss P3 stereoplotter. Normally, it would take two to three years for a compiler to reach production speed in this field. I delivered first production-speed project within eight months of starting. Was later advanced to the position of aerial photographer. Was able to bring significant awareness of photo quality requirements from work as a compiler.

Using ArcInfo, assisted with right-of-way process that included identification and summarization of parcels affected by LVVWD projects. Identified parcels and cadastral information via GIS and associated databases in LVVWD and Clark County. Digitized right-of-way boundaries and manipulated spatial data and attributes via GIS to prepare status maps and reports. Example: Jean-Primm ROW corridor. Periodically created pressure zone maps by digitizing changes to existing pressure zone maps. Created AML programs aimed at increasing productivity. Created one AML that read public land survey system property descriptions and then automatically located the property on a map and drew the boundaries of that property to a coverage. Wrote a companion detailed operating procedure entitled 'Mapping Parcels with the Cadastral Parcel Approximator and AutoCAD Map.' Prior to creating this application, digitized subject parcels. Co-chaired the LVVWD Vacations Process Team whose mission was to deconstruct and reconstruct the right-of-way vacation review process as part of the department's Legal Document Management System (LDMS). Deliverables were a reprogrammed computer application and a companion procedures manual. I compiled and edited the manual using input from each of the affected district divisions. Near the end of tenure in LVVWD Resources, taught myself ArcGIS. Using that application, created a series of maps for the Meter Operations Supervisor. Worked primarily with this supervisor to identify and meet his requirements. Role was to do a needs assessment, design the project in ArcGIS, acquire needed data from the databases, manipulate it into the required form, and digitize the desired boundaries as needed. While working, attended CCSN in pursuit of two of four Associate's degrees, all of which I attained.

Under contract (Community College of Southern Nevada Participating Agreement 17-PA-98-065-01) between CCSN and the USDA Forest Service, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, mapped and analyzed the location and juxtaposition of desert bighorn sheep habitat in the Currant Wilderness, White Pine Range, White Pine County, Nevada. Working from stereo-photos, digitized the location of sensitive plants relative to bighorn sheep habitat. The deliverable was a map created in ArcView with layers showing boundaries for public land surveys, allotments, and range land, as well as range improvements, riparian categories, roads, and drainages. Analyzed the density and types of vegetation within elevations suitable for bighorn sheep habitation. Was also required to identify steeply sloped areas suitable for habitation.

Also handled contaminated laundry and equipment. In spare time, achieved an advanced skill level in dBase programming by writing an inventory management program.Held Q Clearance.
Read and keyworded historical Public Health Service (PHS) records pertaining to radioactive monitoring activities outside the NTS from the 1950s to the end of PHS operations.
Sold cable TV door-to-door.
Attempted to start a career as a freelance writer and photographer. Took on a project that was larger in scope than the time available would allow me to complete.
Supported between 12 and 15 science projects during the Antarctic austral summer on Anvers Island on the Palmer Peninsula. Scientific disciplines that crew supported included oceanography, atmospheric science, penguin studies, fish studies, and krill studies. Peak population during the summer exceeded 30 people. During the winter, crew supported two programs: a clean air sampling program and a very low frequency radio wave monitoring program. Maintained the station facilities, including the diesel power plant, water desalination operations and radio communications in addition to preparing meals for the scientists. Winter population was seven.
Was responsible for managing six programs and integrating their respective resources to meet the needs of over 400 clients a year. Trained Domestic Crisis Shelter personnel to handle hotline telephone calls from families in crisis. Managed the Crisis Response Team intervention operations. Negotiated contracts with more than 30 child care facilities for emergency, short-term respite care. Trained child-care providers to detect and respond to physical, sexual and emotional abuse. Trained and directed foster grandparents in support of families at risk. Was the agency's liaison with more than 15 community agencies. Worked closely with Clark County Juvenile Court Services and Childcare Licensing. Whereas data collection and reporting for evaluation purposes were a problem prior to my tenure, devised a data collection methodology that delivered better data faster for less staff time expended.
Diagnosed client needs and developed a case plan for each client. Attempted to anticipate needs and have process options programmed into each plan. Many clients were court ordered to Operation Bridge for mandatory treatment. As part of my responsibility to the court, prepared detailed diagnostic assessments, case plans and session documentation suitable for court review. Managed 12 to 15 cases at a time; some for short-term treatment, others, long-term. Caseload management skills allowed me to divide time constructively among a large number of people having a multitude of needs. Everyone got attention based on need and priority. The depth of attention and treatment depended largely on each client's immediate needs as measured against the needs of others.
Supervised a crew of three to maintain a construction materials inventory and to deliver tools and materials as required. Developed a new construction materials logistics tracking and delivery system that supplied American scientific research operations across the Antarctic continent. This system operated in conjunction with the U. S. government supply system and U. S. Navy supply operations in Antarctica. My crew supported, on a weekly average, eight construction projects in McMurdo and numerous additional projects at South Pole Station, Siple Station, and several field camps. At the peak of the season, we were supporting as many as twenty operations simultaneously. The on-demand tracking and delivery system that I devised provided 80% of requested material immediately upon request; 15% within two days; and 5% within two months (off-continent procurement). The remaining 5% were either cancelled by the requisitioner or delivered the following season via cargo vessel. Worked directly for the Construction Manager and closely with all Crew Chiefs to meet their demands for the construction materials required for their respective projects. This close coordination included being able to read and interpret blueprints in order to identify and deliver required materials in a timely fashion.
Counseled runaway and court-referred adolescents. Problems ranged from lack of communication with parents to drug abuse as well as physical and sexual abuse. Carried a caseload of eight to ten clients at any one time. This program attempted to integrate adolescents into a nurturing group environment which encouraged positive interpersonal relationships with adults and peers while simultaneously pushing the clients toward a realistic understanding of their relationships and toward taking responsibility for those relationships. Listening was the most significant skill I developed in this profession. Also, developed some keen and sensitive diagnostic and interpersonal problem-solving skills. Learned how to play psychological poker with manipulative adolescents and adults.
Worked in the United States Antarctic Research Program administrative office in McMurdo, Antarctica preparing correspondence, sorting and delivering message traffic, transporting personnel and providing custodial services. Was responsible for periodically typing weekly situation reports (SITREPS), procurement requisitions and correspondence. At the end of contract, prepared an Administrative Detailed Operating Procedures manual for successor.
Provided information and referral services to families applying for welfare assistance. Saw fifteen to twenty clients per day. Ongoing workload often exceeded thirty cases. Most of the people I saw were in a high state of emotional distress facing serious financial situations. Problems included divorce, child abuse and neglect, wife-battering, physical and emotional illness, lack of housing, food, and clothing. Typically, clients expected the state to rescue them. Principal challenge of the job came in directing clients to scarce community resources that were often hardly adequate for their problems. Job required in-depth knowledge of community resources and the ability to be supportive without assuming personal responsibility for their material salvation. This job required extensive writing skills in documenting client interviews and needs assessments. Documentation had to meet rigid agency standards for use in computer data collection and possible court review.
