After a few years as college library director, I began leading Madison Public Library branches in 2010. I still keep a toe in higher ed as a consultant, leading teams of academics that review colleges and universities seeking accreditation.I enjoy helping out, being in community, and using my skills where they can do the most good. I currently serve on the boards of my neighborhood association and an association representing 200+ professionals & supervisors at the City of Madison. I've worked with the American Library Association's Washington Office on public policy efforts for about 20 years, most recently meeting with members of Congress as part of ALA Congressional Fly-In events in 2023 and 2024. I chaired ALA's Information Technology Policy Advisory Committee for most of the 2010s, and helped start up national ALA initiatives including Policy Revolution, ALA Policy Corps, and America’s Libraries in the 20th Century. Along the way I met with ALA partners or stakeholders including the FCC, Google, Aspen Institute, Gates Foundation, and other federal agencies and national library associations. In addition to library operations, my work for the City of Madison has also included leadership of Neighborhood Resource Teams--City-led stakeholder groups that seek to foster racial equity and social justice for underserved communities.
