Managed analog IC design activities: in-house employees, contractors, outside design services.Designed transmit DACs, voltage regulators and bias circuitry for twisted pair and power line modems. Designed receivers for twisted pair modems, I/O cells.

• Designed CMOS integrated circuits for sensing very small differential capacitances of MEMs, for determining mirror positions in a 1k x 1k optical crosspoint switch.• Designed high-voltage CMOS analog circuits.

• Involved in all aspects of a boutique IC design services business: circuit and logic design, tool evaluation and purchase, marketing/sales, contracts, resource management of company employees and outside consultants, financial, facilities, Verilog models.• Designed analog/mixed signal blocks in 6 generations of CMOS processes• Designed triple 10-bit Video DACs in several processes, operating to over 500MHz.• Designed the analog section (13 bit A/D, amplifiers, reference) of a consumer-products circuit for strain-gage applications.• Designed analog and pad ring cells for a transceiver chip; later migrated the analog section to another two foundries. • Designed PLL module components running to 1.5GHz• Designed fully differential programmable gain amplifiers• Planned, supervised, checked, and edited layout design.

• Designed the analog section for twisted-pair communications chips. Differential current DAC transmitter with a stepped sine wave, and waveform shaping on each step. The receiver includes a bandpass filter using gds-C and RC poles. Bias circuitry, V to I converter, clock speed detection, POR.• Blood glucose analyzer chip. 12-bit integrating A/D converter, bandgap voltage reference, amplifiers, DACs, LCD driver. Performed all analog and digital design activities, planned/supervised layout• 9771 chip -- product definition, logic design, analog design, specification generation, detailed layout plan for all analog cells, pad cells and repetitive digital sections, test vector generation. The 9771 is a single-chip system which provides analog measurement and digital calibration for various types of transducers. 12 bit integrating ADC with a 6uVp-p total system noise level. DAC for transducer bridge completion. A tunable on-chip oscillator, zero-power POR, LCD driver and logic, and programmable digital suppression of small reading variations is included. More than 20 million parts shipped.• Single chip ultrasonic ranging system -- product definition, flow diagrams, logic design, analogdesign, detailed layout plan, prototype evaluation, test bring-up, transfer to production. • Designed all control logic for a non-volatile (analog flash-based) voice recording/playback chip.• Miscellaneous sub-circuits: opamp, DAC, V to F converter, core voltage regulator, crystal oscillators, differential receiver with programmable hysteresis and filter, twisted pair transmitter, Ethernet receiver.• Several display drivers for multiplexed LCDs (entire chip designs).• Design reviews: 5 standard product ADC's, LED driver, custom NOVRAM design.• Numerous other mixed signal chips, analog blocks, several digital chip designs, feasibility studies, finding/fixing design problems of other engineers.

• Under my direction, an analog standard cell library was developed and characterized be me, 6 engineers reporting to me and 2 engineers in another group. Cells included a PLL subsystem, 8 bit video DAC, 8 and 10-bit switched-capacitor ADCs, 6-8 bit resistor string DACs, 13-bit integrating ADC, opamps, comparators,power-on-reset, 10 bit switched-capacitor DAC, bandgap reference, analog switches, oscillators, low supply detector.• Supported marketing and sales in the areas of analog capabilities, customer technical interface, and job quotes.• Disk-drive chip: designed analog section for head positioning, comprising five 8-bit DACs, a comparator and 11 opamps. • Environmental control chip: designed using existing 8-bit switched capacitor ADC,opamp and 4K EEPROM standard cells.• LORAN circuit designed to provide voltages for controlling external tunable filters: 10 DACs and associated opamps.• Picture-in-picture (video) circuit: designed flash ADC and DAC.• Supervised the design and implementation of several other analog/mixed signal chips by engineers in my group.
