Caring mentor and alternative special needs paraprofessional, adept at working with challenging students in educational settings, aiding teachers and school districts to fulfill their special needs responsibilities, and enabling each student to fulfill their inner potential for educational and emotional stability.I posess a unique background of direct student services, including frequent interaction with school administration, teachers and parents coupled with prior experience information technology and database troubleshooting in both the US military and corporate sector.I began my career as a computer programmer in the Air Force and have remained current with consumer technology in Microsoft suite and other database programming. For the past 8 years, I have worked as a special needs paraprofessional, curriculum coordinator, and education advocate. With a strong penchant to remain up-to-date and appropriately credentialed with all my activities, I earned a paralegal certificate in 2010. My current position has allowed me to blend the skills of precision, and attention to detail, to the passion I have discovered for the field of education, working with students and parents, coordinating with school administrators while remaining in compliance with education regulations.Over the years I have undertaken numerous challenges requiring communicating effectively and harmoniously in team environments, being an effective mediator with people from varying backgrounds, maintaining accurate program details and problem solving in emotional, technical and everyday situations. I truly enjoy the multitasking called for in such situations and take pleasure in successfully assisting others in achieving their goals, simple or complex.

Identified and cleared the bottleneck which had caused the project to be behind schedule and over budget. Restored order to student group assigned to the task which was experiencing interpersonal conflicts, conducted team building training, and succeeded in getting project completed on time. • Restored appropriate learning environment to classrooms by eliminating noise pollution of videos and loud music emanating from the Alternative Students computer room by working with the technical department to disconnect external speakers on the computers of offending students.• Created homeroom class order by modifying loud, physical student roughhousing which had become commonplace and had scared female students and disrupted other classes. Rechanneled attention and energy by posting to the blackboard a new quote each day. Result: students became engaged, initiated discussions, and began to research and bring in their own quotes for discussion. Due to the success of this activity all quotes are maintained in a notebook, with the better ones recycled from year to year.• Enabled school district to measure IEP deliverables with greater accuracy, and reduced student complaints and controversy regarding unevenly dispensed classroom discipline. Obtained teacher’s consent to track all arrival and departure times, swearing occurrences, academic scores for every student in the classroom. Demonstrated that teacher was utilizing highly subjective grounds for discipline, thereby confirming validity of many of the student complaints. Result: when discipline was applied with greater consistency the level of complaints dropped and classroom effectiveness increased. Show less
