These easements protected the conservation values of the forestland while realizing economic value for the company through the sale of certain property rights on these designated lands.•Managed IP’s Special Places in the Forest program. This program conserved 750 sites containing more than 114,000 acres within IP’s forestlands that contain unique ecological, geological, historical and cultural characteristics. Surveyed and mapped over 100 occurrences of imperiled, threatened, and endangered plants, animals and plant communities across the company’s forestlands.•Led the conservation land sale in which IP sold 278,000 acres in 11 states to the Nature Conservancy and the Conservation Fund as a part of the company’s 2006 forestland divestiture.•Redesigned and managed IP’s Life of the Forest, an environmental educational program that describes how trees grow, that trees make up forests and how forests can be managed in a sustainable manner while providing more than fiber products.
