As the patch manager for Edinburgh City, I have full ownership of the team of +35 engineers. That includes owning engagement activity, building the right inclusive and diverse culture, owning communication of the company strategy, transformation, financial elements, team performance, resource training, planning & the E2E delivery of customer connectivity in my geographical patch area.

The key purpose of the Patch Lead role is to develop, support and coach a team of around 40 with accountability for ensuring that fibre build outcomes are delivered. Also be responsible for driving the quality, safety and compliance measures within your team. pro-actively building and maintaining relationships, often liaising with technical experts. You’ll be trusted by peers and colleagues, will be passionate about doing the right thing, approachable and able to effectively communicate and engage at all levels. You’ll ensure your work is carried out in compliance with BT and Openreach safety requirements.Responsible for the delivery of fibre build within your patch, motivating and developing a team of around 30 engineers to achieve this.Maintaining a safe working environment, generating and implementing a plan that ensures all checks are completed to the required timescale and quality, ensuring your own safety training is up to date.Understand the root cause of non-compliance and implement appropriate corrective immediate or longer-term actions (with Patch manager support) to address safety issue and reduce risk.Supporting the Patch Manager in improving performance across service, quality, efficiency and compliance measures, supporting, coaching ensuring the right customer outcomes.Supporting a culture of continuous improvement, using coaching skills to deliver sustainable growth within the team and working with your patch manager to address behavioural and compliance issues as per our process and procedures.Taking the lead in generating innovative ideas and encouraging team members to constantly seek to improve performance, customer service and processes.Work with your patch manager to deliver an operational plan, which involves co-ordinating field-based engineers to ensure all fibre build commitments are met.Supporting and championing the implementation of change and transformation initiatives within your team.

Senior engineers are at the forefront of delivering fibre network to customers. This is a hands-on role, working daily in the field on allocated jobs and using appropriate tools for the task. Providing and maintaining the fibre network, deploying a variety of high-level engineering skills and personal expertise.Supporting the team on a day to day basis, using extensive skills and knowledge, delivering jobs every day to provide great service to customers.The go-to person for technical and analytical experience and the practical application of this. Recognised by my peer group for my ownership and accountability in delivering excellent customer service and the way in which they help and encourage others to do the same.
