I am a business owner/chef of 18 years operating four food businesses during this time in the restaurant and catering market of Sydney. My mainstay business Poolside @ Andrew (Boy) Charlton, closed in 2021 due to Covid after nearly 15 years of trading. After an intense almost two years of operating a small business in a pandemic, I took a step back from a business ownership role and have enjoyed working casually for other successful small businesses. Beyond my industry specific kitchen skills of menu planning, ordering, rostering, food preparation and service I also have a broad range of widely adaptable business skills.Including:- Front-facing customer service including responding to customer feedback, requests and complaints.- Staff supervision and training. During peak trading periods I would employ up to thirty full-time and casual staff across kitchen, bar and front of house, managing a wide range of skill sets and abilities. I was engaged in staff recruitment, training and mentoring.- Day to day administration skills including use of accounting (Xero & MYOB) and POS software, rostering, ordering and costing spreadsheets, database management, reservation and events calendar management, employee communications.- Direct contract management with City of Sydney Council and Belgravia Leisure including contractual negotiations, KPI performance review, compliance and safety procedures, business development, and project marketing.- Site liaison with Ventia and Brookfield Multiplex for maintenance, site security, and facility infrastructure projectsAfter a long and successful stint as a business owner, entrepreneurship has taught me to be adaptable, quick-thinking, efficient, and productive at all times. I am a great problem solver, a fast learner, and take to new tasks with ease. Being a small business operator demands an ability to wear multiple hats at any one time, this versatility being one of my strongest traits.I also find a great deal of satisfaction in working as part of a team, I highly value strong leadership in others and am looking to re-enter the job market with no sense of ego but a willingness to learn and take my career in a new direction.Operating during a pandemic and ultimately closing my business has been one of the most challenging periods I have faced. It has taught me new levels of tenacity and resilience. However, the prospects for something new and varied are exciting and I am keen to meet the challenges of a new career.
