230 Squadron has provided me the opportunity to refine and implement my managerial skills on a busy front line squadron. As a maintenance supervisor in a fast paced, dynamic environment a proactive approach to work has allowed me to make a tangible impact on operational capability globally. Equally; differing engineering demands have allowed me to learn skills, such as vibration analysis, to compliment my already comprehensive skillset. Promotion in rank brought with it new challenges which I tackled in my usual calm and well reasoned manner. Bridging specific skill gaps and providing professional development to subordinates are examples of how I have ensured the delivery of continued aircraft availability during a period of increased operational demand.Responsibilities

Responsible for the repair, reconditioning and certification of Tornado GR4 mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components; this was an extremely demanding post that enabled me to expand and hone my engineering skill set. I became expert in the repair and testing of hydraulic, oleo pneumatic and electro-mechanical components; using high tech test equipment and pressures up to 410 bar. As the subject matter expert on a multitude of components I was regularly involved in writing maintenance procedures and technical reports for both the UK military and foreign allies; allowing lucrative new revenue streams to be exploited. Using LEAN and Six Sigma principles I carried out continuous improvement activities that allowed serviceable output to be increased from 72% to 91% and significantly increased platform availability.

Responsible for the day to day maintenance of 28 Merlin aircraft of differing build specs I helped to increase aircraft availability and reduce in-use failures by carrying out a plethora of preventative maintenance activities, replenishments and implementing airfield safety measures. • Awarded the honour of Silver Salver on 2 occasions for finishing at the top of my class on both phase 2 and 3 technical training courses at the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering.• Served on exercises and operational tours in Afghanistan, Cyprus, Jordan, France, U.S.A and numerous UK locations.
