I am an architect with a passion for sustainable architecture, and have over 30 years continually sought to bridge academic research, teaching and practice to create a sustainable future. In my role as Principal Lead for Science and Technology at HOK, my aim is continue to define-develop- deliver and promote a sustainable future not only in the science and technology sector but for the whole of the built environment. I have been privileged to collaborate and lead sustainability with leading practices including WilkinsonEyre, Bennetts Associates and Hopkins Architects. These collaborations have delivered award winning sustainable buildings across a range of sectors from Higher Education, Academic Research, residential mixed use, office and cultural buildings.My academic experience includes teaching and research positions at The University of Cambridge, The University of Edinburgh, Robert Gordon University Aberdeen, Heriot Watt University Edinburgh, and Oxford Brookes University.My honorary positions include:Chair of the RIBA Sustainable Futures Group in October 2018. Visiting Professor of Sustainable Architecture at Robert Gordons University Aberdeen in 2016.Chairman of the Usable Buildings Trust and BSRIA Soft Landings User Group from 2009 until 2016My work has been recognized by many awards, including awards from the Civic Trust and the RIBA.

Associate Director And Head Of SustainabilityWilkinsoneyre Feb 2014 - Oct 2019London, GbI was appointed as head of sustainability for the practice in January 2016. I am currently developing our in house sustainability process to include soft landings principles and to track and target a series of key sustainability metrics. In addition to this role I am continuing to lead on series of ground breaking projects: The £40m expansion to Dyson Industries Campus including advanced R&D hub, campus cafe pavilion and sports pavilion. These buildings are due for completion in early summer 2016. The £130m Kings Cross Gasholders Triplets residential project for Argent. The marketing suite and main building structure was topped out in February and is due for completion in spring 2017. This building will be finished to the highest level of quality. Other projects include the New Law School for City, University of London; Global HQ for Rotork in Bath; Front of house Foyer and Leisure Pavilion for £500m St Johns Wood Craigewan super prime Mixed Use development. -
Associate DirectorAecom Feb 2013 - Feb 2014During this fixed term year contract, I successfully led two projects to tender level information with a team of 15 architects and as lead consultant managing a team of up to 70 professionals.Lusail Artscape- £400 million Middle eastern project including visitor centre hanging from 100m high arches, airport style cable car base station, and several bridges and landscape interventions.Rational House- £3m first phase of off site sustainable housing system.Both buildings were modelled in revit and included all MEP and structures to a high degree of coordination.

Project Director For Reall ProjectHeriot-Watt University Mar 2011 - Mar 2013Gary was Project Director for a ground breaking eco-village experiment based at Heriot Watt initiated by Professor Sue Roaf. This project sought to design, build, and subsequently monitor energy and environmental performance of completed buildings while inhabited.During this time Gary was also consulting with John Thomson and Partners on eco-cities in China, most notably, a 2km2 Lakeside area of Wuxi.
