As sole maintenance technician based at The Glasgow Dental Hospital’s central sterile supply department, I have to plan, organize and coordinate the maintenance and repairs of all mechanical and electrical plant. My responsibilities include the undertaking of weekly and quarterly quality assurance testing throughout the facility, which include washer disinfectors, large porous load sterilizers, steam boilers, The Reverse Osmosis System and Air handling units. A large part of this is measuring and ensuring each of the machines do what they should do within acceptable tolerances and recording this data in each of their logbooks. I am also responsible for the day to day running of the steam boilers, testing chemical levels and adjusting dosing as required. Another part of my job is frontline fault-finding, reading technical drawings and repairing of all mechanical and electrical plant, together with speaking to manufacturers and sourcing parts.

Initially employed by Streamtec then tupe'd to STV, my main responsibilities included managing all electrical maintenance and safety checks, ensuring all lighting equipment for STV studios and all electrics for the Outside Broadcast units meet with the 16th edition IEE regulations. Other duties include ordering parts from drawings and modifying drawings. Rigging and de-rigging lighting equipment and fine setting as instructed by camera person or lighting directors. I also repair and maintain Strand & I.E.S dimmer racks. TV Programmes that I have been involved with include High Road, Wheel of Fortune, How2, Boxset, Scotland Today, Scotsport, The Peoples Court, High times, Celtic and Rangers TV Uncle Dad and numerous adverts.
