Carried out research at the University of Wollongong for the purpose of attaining a PhD in the discipline of engineering. The focus of this research work was directed towards the optimization of metal transfer and fusion control through the use of a current control technique for dip transfer GMAW. As a consequence of this work an alternate current control technique was developed which is suitable for use with most conventional multi-function inverter welding power sources to achieve significant improvements in weld spatter and fusion control.
