Wood Encouragement Officer The Wood Encouragement Officer position was initiated jointly with the Tasmanian Timber Promotion Board and the University of Tasmania. The role seeks to engage with industry partners to establish and understand the expectations, needs and anticipate outcomes, focusing on the use of locally sourced wood in the building and construction industry, primarily Tasmanian hardwood.Gary Fleming A Registered Architect with 20 years’ experience working with several major Tasmanian firms.Primary roles have been the design, documentation, consultant coordination and contract administration of projects of all type and scale, primarily Government Projects.This industry experience has provided a good understanding of the benefits of using wood in buildings and some of the difficulties that can restrict the use wood.I was born in Tasmania and grew up developing a passion for Tasmanian woods.Before entering the field of Architecture, I had a career in trades and bespoke manufacturing, working hands on with wood and other materials.
