WHAT IS CROSSINGS?CROSSINGS is a Christian, faith-based prison program, based on the Bible, that links the incarcerated individual to the faith community within and outside the prison. As much as possible it helps establish good relationships within the inmate’s own family.IS CROSSINGS A CHURCH?CROSSINGS is not a church, nor does it subscribe to any particular denomination. The programming is biblically based, and follows Judeo-Christian principles. It is open to all persons from any, or no, religious background. Inmates are required to read and participate in all program assignments and classes. They are also free to read any additional religious books and participate in worship services of other religions that are not contrary to the concepts presented. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE?The Crossings program is designed to help establish positive and rewarding relationships. Emphasis is placed on overcoming hurts, hang-ups, and habits that prevent the individual from having a fulfilling and successful life. This is accomplished by encouraging them to examine their lifestyle and exposing them to a lifestyle of Faith in Jesus Christ. The inmate’s family and the Communities they live in are extremely important to this program and will be encouraged to attend seminars or family weekends to help them overcome obstacles to healthy interpersonal relationships. WHAT HAPPENS IN CROSSINGS?The inmates live together with other inmates who have made a commitment toward a positive lifestyle based on faith in God. During the normal workday they work or go to school, earning the usual incentive pay and good time as regulated by the institutionSeveral evenings a week outside volunteers assist in presenting faith-based activities. These activities include a recovery program; meetings during which problems, concerns, joys and affirmations are expressed and classes designed to expand the faith walk. The inmate is required to attend each of these activities.
