People often say they are passionate about print, some are, some not so much. I am definitely in the passionate about print camp, especially self-adhesive labels and packaging.I have been in the label and print industry all my working career. After completing a rotary-letterpress label printing apprenticeship at Avery Labels NZ in the mid-eighties, I stayed on printing labels until moving into various supervisory, production management, operations management, and sales management roles within the industry, working for some of the biggest label printing companies in New Zealand. I now work between labels and packaging, still enjoying what the print industry has to offer.In appreciation of the people who helped me throughout my career, and the industry as a whole, I like to give back and help where I can. I do this by judging labels for the annual NZ Pride in Print Awards. I have done this for the last 6 years. This is a great opportunity to applaud the fantastic work that the New Zealand label industry produces. Some of these labels go on to win World Label Awards, proving that New Zealand label producers certainly punch above their weight.To me, suppliers and customers are not only that, but they are also business partners. We cannot do business without each other. We need to respect each other and understand each other's issues, and how hard it is to do business in New Zealand at times. We also need to look after our planet. Let us try and find the most sustainable ways to produce print.
