Initially a member of the development team responsible for maintaining and enhancing an existing Voice over IP (VoIP) telephone using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). The application also had a Windows based simulator, maintained in Visual Studio.Tasks included:• Adding new functionality to the user configuration interfaces (phone based menus and web pages).• Implementing additional SIP features.• RTP statistics collection and analysis.Subsequently, a member of a team responsible for developing a new system card to add VoIP support to Siemens’ HiPath DX telephone system. Main task was to port existing signalling protocol conversion software into the new product, but was also responsible for creating and maintaining the SNiFF+ development tool project definitions and assisted other team members with the ClearCase environment.Both of these projects were embedded VxWorks applications developed in C/C++ using Tornado and SNiFF+ with source control provided by ClearCase.
Contract Clearcase Adminstrator
Responsible for the administration and day to day support of a Rational ClearCase environment for a large development team. Main duties were:• Planning and implementing the MultiSite synchronisation of data with remote sites, including writing a Perl script to transfer data packets using FTP.• Creating code repositories and importing the initial data.• Planning and implementing local policy using trigger scripts, also written in Perl.• Providing fundamental training, assistance with installation and ongoing support for users on both Windows and UNIX.• Administration and support of the HPUX server used by both ClearCase and the development team, including scheduling backups, monitoring system resources, installing additional software and system patches and automating some routine tasks with the use of shell and Perl scripts. This also required occasional out of hours work to avoid disruption of the development team.• Providing advice and support on best practices for the use of the many features of ClearCase, including branching/merging techniques and writing config specs.• Planning and specifying an upgrade to the ClearCase environment involving the provision of a new dedicated ClearCase server.Also consulted at many levels by the development team and provided them with assistance, including:• Rewriting the Make and Ant files for the main project, which consisted of a core of FORTRAN code and a Java wrapper.• Bug fixes and enhancements to a Gas Network Analysis tool written in Visual C++.

This development utilised a variety of technologies (ANSI C++, Rational Rose, CORBA, XML, Oracle and DB2 databases, Secant Persistent Object Storage and SourceSafe/ClearCase).Involved in the full development life cycle of this product and tasks included:• Creating utility base classes for use within the project.• Adding functionality to enhance the product.• Investigating and correcting defects.• Migrating the project between Microsoft Visual C++ versions 5.0 and 6.0.• Porting the original Windows NT developed code to UNIX platforms (HPUX, AIX and Solaris)• Maintaining further developments on these platforms.Developed and maintained NT and UNIX scripts to control an overnight build process for the complete product that also included several Java tiers. The build process was required to label the latest source code, extract and compile all components on each platform, create the required installation packages, and produce intranet pages detailing progress and success. Initially, SourceSafe was used for configuration management, this was later replaced by ClearCase.

A member of the development team responsible for maintaining and enhancing an existing distributed database query system for mobile phone billing.Extended the functionality of an existing code generator to add load-balancing capabilities to the system using Noblenet's EZRPC. The code generator was written in C and ran on DEC, AIX and HP UNIX and Windows NT platforms.Designed and developed a modular suite of code generators utilising the CORBA Interface Definition Language, LEX/YACC and C++. These were used to simplify the conversion of the existing code written in Informix 4GL to C++.

This consisted of a C++ wrapper class to hide the Gradient PC-DCE environment from Client developers and simplify the development of new client code.
