The solution uses firewall-isolated dedicated core hardware stacks distributed across four core locations interconnected with IPSec VPN tunnels. Additional technologies built into SESC include Citrix, RSA, VMWare, EMC SAN, QRadar, Sourcefire, Trend, Nessus, Solarwinds Orion, Veritas, Tripwire, Infoblox, and Symmetricom.Network Security: Proposed, designed, and implemented the original Network Security Operations Center (NSOC) at Western Area Power Administration. The NSOC is used to provide continuous Cyber Security Monitoring services for the agency. The NSOC has grown to become a key component of the Cyber Security program at WAPA. The original NSOC was staffed with 2 full-time Contractors, which has since expanded to 5 Cyber Security Analysts and a dedicated System Administrator. Prior to this solution, the NOC would experience several significant NMS outages weekly. After this solution was implemented, the NOC did not experience any NMS outages.Network Testing: Developed test designs for router hardware and software implementations. These extensive test designs included functionality, DDOS attacks, link failures, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), route redistribution, timers, NAT, SNMP, HSRP, CEF, route-maps, access-lists, throughput, CPU utilization, and many other scenarios. Using this test methodology; we have discovered several vendor code bugs in our lab. We worked with the vendors to fix the bugs or develop workarounds prior to production deployment.
