With over 30 years working in operations for the retirement residence sector, I bring significant wisdom and experience to the table regarding today’s older population – particularly as it relates to their living options. I am especially passionate about reinventing the existing models of retirement living, with alternatives that provide dynamic options for all stages of adult living.So, when an opportunity presented itself to do just that, I leapt at it. In partnership with two equally passionate colleagues, Canoe Bay Development was conceived – Ottawa’s ground-breaking community with housing options for every stage of adult living.A bit more about me…Born and raised in England, I made the move to Ontario in 1979, working in various hospitality positions, including managing the Courtyard restaurant in the historical Byward Market. But in 2000, I made a pivotal career change to the world of retirement housing. Thus, began a 20-year stint that culminated in the role of Vice-President of Opeartions for Revera, overseeing 35 residences. But I didn’t stop there. I also:• founded B&K Management in 1998, a full-service retirement consulting company that I oversee today• act as CEO for Canoe Bay Development, the ground-breaking new community development with housing options for all stages of adult living• sit on the Advisory Committee for the Retirement Communities Management program at Algonquin College• am co-owner of Wildpine Retirement Residence, and;• sit on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Retirement Communities Association, as VP of Small OperatorsI am always keen to connect with those who are interested in any number of the following – consulting on creating profitable building projects, assistance with project design, and anything to do with planning, development and operations.
