After the heyday of luxury item spending peaked and then began to fall in the 1980's, bad buyouts and bad decisions by many coporations not previously in the high-end retail business, drove these iconic specialty luxury department stores into their corporate bankruptcies and the corporate owners were flat broke and had run these fine, once prominent and unmatched stores into the ground. I dealt with very wealthy men and women in clothing sales in the MenShops. This was 30 yurs ago and suits started at $750 up, ties $75-$125, robes up to over $1,000. It was truly the best and service impeccable.
