Managing a dedicated team to ensure that Prison Services Standards (from accommodation through every process through to use of force inclusive of security standards) were being audited and action planned to ensure that standards are maintained and improved. Audit frequencies for individual standards based upon requirements and my own designed risk assessment procedure (that has been adopted by public and private sector prisons) to base audit frequency against perceived risk. Latterly (from October 2011) working as audits and contract manager for G4S at the same location following privatisation to include the above, and the collation/reporting of contract figures taking pro-active actions to improve delivery.

Managing a team of instructional officers in 5 prison workshops employing prisoners in various production and learning processes including textile production and assembly/packing (some for the private sector) and a course in health and safety. In 2001 I took over the roll of Audit Manager and introduced a successful audit procedure and programme covering 62 prison service standards, inclusive of security. Achieved best practice for the system that was taken up by a number of prison service establishments.

Hmp Wakefield

Assistant to the Industrial Manager. Line Manager to 8 middle managers and countersigning officer for 30 Instructional Officers and Officer Instructors. Managing 8 industrial workshops (Steel Fabrication, Machine Shop, Textiles Shops, Tailors Shop and assembly for prisoners with difficulties) producing goods and products for internal and private sectors. Employing 360 prisoners in a high security prison and a budget (materials and maintenance) in excess of a million pounds.

Hmyoi Stoke Heath

Instructing and managing young male offenders (16 - 21 ages) in engineering assembly work (i.e. producing braked 4 wheel trolleys, security grills, doors and gates) followed by training young offenders in fabrication and welding in a production environment. Maintaining discipline of 12 young offenders on my section and assisting in maintaining discipline of the workshop in general whilst producing engineered products to high standard. Ensuring that correct and up to date records were maintained for production and for training to ensure safety.

Stafford

Fabricating high quality, high tolerance products for general and mainly for the electronic generating companies (i.e. transformer tanks of approx 30 tons (300 tons when fully filled), large marine gearbox cases.
