About Gary Mix

"Experience never gets old" is the tagline for the 2015 movie "The Intern" starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. De Niro is an "encore talent" (an age 50+ job seeker) who, via a senior internship program, brings his experience, maturity and wisdom into a decidedly younger workforce. In today's business and social environment where many types of diversity are being promoted, "age diversity" is only gradually gaining traction. But there are encouraging signs; recent research by Encore.org revealed that non-profit organizations hired nearly 1,700 encore people who had a "surprising" impact. Statistically, 73% of this talent contributed new approaches, ideas and/or tools, while 49% helped reduce operating costs and/or improve delivery service. As one blogger has hinted, intergenerational collaboration has created a "tension" between "seen that before" experience and fresh new ideas, delivering some very real disruptive innovation. There is an articulated opinion that the motivation to have a legacy impact becomes even more pronounced in encore talent. Personally believing that to be true, I am looking for an opportunity to use my experience (which many people do not have) in a way that helps businesses and individuals catapult forward.
